Ham and Swiss Cheese Sliders

| | ,

This family of mine loves sandwiches! I’m not sure why they rank so high on the list of their favorites, but since they do, I just go with it. I stumbled on a recipe for meat and cheese sliders years ago and made a few changes that I knew would please my family and their taste buds and a new family favorite was born!

When I give my husband a plateful of Ham and Swiss Cheese Sliders, I have one very happy man!!

We are a family on the go, whether it is camping, sporting events, family functions or simple get togethers, so this recipe for Ham and Swiss Cheese Sliders is perfect, because it can be made ahead and cooked later. This is comfort food at its warm, gooey, best! These are full of sweet and/or smoky ham, the bite of Swiss cheese, heat from horseradish and tang from the buttery, sauce poured over these before baking. The smell of these cooking is DIVINE!

I have several versions of these “sliders” with different meats, cheese and sauces, but the one I am focusing on today is the Ham and Swiss Cheese Sliders. This is made with very simple ingredients, nothing fancy here! However, when you put these together, you are left with a mouthful of very good food!

Ham and Swiss Cheese Sliders are soft, sweet rolls, topped with smoky ham, Swiss cheese, tangy horseradish and a buttery sauce. YUM!

I love the softness and slight sweetness from Hawaiian rolls, so when they are available, I use those. If however, you don’t have access to them, use any soft dinner roll you have and they work out just fine. The flavor is the best part of these Ham and Swiss Cheese Sliders, but my second favorite part is that they make an entire pan full at the same time. This is an awesome time saver!

This recipe is very adaptable to the ingredients you have on hand. I love either mustard or horseradish with ham, so on these rolls I love to smear a good quality, hot, creamed horseradish on the rolls. I love both smoked and honey ham, so I pick whichever is on sale that week. A nice, tangy, Swiss cheese is a perfect matchup for ham and the buttery sauce, poured over the top, keeps the bread soft, and adds so much flavor!

So, if you are headed for potluck, just double up the foil for a quick clean up. If you want a quick and hearty meal for a crowd (or less, you can pair it down if need be), this is the recipe for you! Again, to save time, make these ahead and when you get home, just pop them in the oven. If you cooked them ahead of time, just reheat for 10 minutes. These are so good, you can’t eat just one and why would you, if there is a whole pan full!?! Enjoy friends!
