Sweet and Spicy Sugar Free BBQ Sauce

| | , , ,

I have bought countless bottles of sugar free BBQ sauce over the years, just trying to find one that I even liked! They all had relatively low carbs, but they never had the flavor I was looking for. Being that recipe development is my “thang,” I decided to make my own. There was some trial and lots of errors, but once this sauce was born, I have received rave reviews about it ever since. This may sound like I am tooting my own horn here and I am! This is so good that I make it in quadruple batches and can it in my pressure cooker!! This means, I always have a stash of Sweet and Spicy Sugar Free BBQ Sauce in the pantry, ready to use.

Sweet and Spicy Sugar Free BBQ Sauce is sweet, spicy, tangy and smoky all in one! Perfect for any of your BBQ sauce needs!

Most “regular” BBQ sauces have a lot of high fructose corn syrup as their source of sweetener. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is known to increase inflammation in the body, is linked to obesity, heart disease, elevated blood pressure and even cancer. All of those things are on our avoidance list. However, this recipe was born secondary to my hubs decision to give up sugar. He didn’t remove it from his diet because of the above listed disease processes (though that should have been enough of a reason for all of us), he gave it up because he noticed as he got older, sugar made his body hurt. From joints, to headaches and body stiffness, he could directly link his pain, to his ingestion of sugar.

Once the decision was made to remove sugar from his diet, I have been on the hunt to create sugar free recipes he enjoys, at least as much as before. If he is going to give up some of his favorites, for a healthier lifestyle, I can at least see if I can compete in the sugar free world. After getting in the kitchen and trying out many combinations of flavors, I can confidently say, I can compete! Sweety and Spicy Sugar Free BBQ Sauce is delicious! Being able to eat our favorite BBQ’d chicken or sauce up BBQ Meatloaf Muffins and pulled pork is everything!

Sweet and Spicy Sugar Free BBQ Sauce is a bold, rich and delicious sauce! It’s perfect for BBQ’d chicken, ribs and pulled pork!

Making a batch of my bbq sauce is a pretty easy endeavor. The hardest part for me, which honestly, wasn’t that hard, was finding Heinz No Sugar Added Ketchup. Fortunately, one of my local grocery stores carries it, so it is something I stock up on. I make this bbq sauce in huge batches and then pressure can it. This ensures I always have some on stock and don’t have to make a batch each time we want to enjoy it.

As I said, making this is a pretty simple endeavor. In fact, the sum total of the recipes directions are; Put all of the ingredients in a sauce pain, mix together so everything is well incorporated and then simmer for 45 minutes to thicken. Ta dah!! That’s it! Couldn’t be much easier than that.

    • Great question Renee! I know you can water bath can BBQ sauce, but I have always just pressure canned my sauce. So, the answer is yes, you can water bath can the BBQ sauce, you would just need to look up the appropriate timing for water bath canning it. If you do end up water bath canning your sauce, let me know how it went and how long you had it in the canner. I would love to know!!
