Homemade Bread in a Bread Machine

| | ,

I am lucky enough to come from a family of great cooks and amazing bakers. This lineage of really, really, good cooks is something I am proud of. I have very vivid memories of watching my Great-Grandma, “Grammy” making Sweet Potato Pie and Peach Cobbler. My “Grandma” was extremely patient, she was the type who went out of her way to make everything she served, special. She took the time to peel her garden-fresh tomatoes when making my lunch. She patiently prepped fresh, fruit from her trees to make the best jam and jelly. Helping her place huge, cucumbers in big, heavy crocks that she weighted down with a plate and a big stone in order to prep for a batch of the best pickles you could ever have, is a memory I cherish.

I love making fresh bread and there is nothing easier than making Homemade Bread in a Bread Machine!

As amazing as my Grandparents and Great-Grandparents were in the kitchen, I learned most about cooking from my mom. She is an amazing woman and great mentor. One of the way she shows her love is by feeding you. I remember when she told me she didn’t know how to cook when she got married and it was Grandma who was patient, kind and loving enough to show her the ropes. Grandma must have been a rock star of a teacher or mom was a straight A student, not sure which. Either way, mom is the best cook I know. I think one of her many specialties is homemade breads, pies and yeast rolls. I love to bake bread from scratch when I can, but sometimes I need to multitask and that is where making Homemade Bread in a Bread Machine is a lifesaver!

There are so many recipes to choose from, but when I make Homemade Bread in a Bread Machine, I pick from a few standing recipes that never let me down. This bread recipe will become a family favorite. The prep time is roughly 5 minutes, then you turn the machine on and get busy doing something else.

Making Homemade Bread in a Bread Machine is quick and easy. Just add ingredients, set the timer and walk away!

There are a few basic things to know about making Homemade Bread in a Bread Machine. You should always use bread flour, not regular all-purpose flour for all bread machine recipes. Bread flour has more gluten than regular all-purpose flour and this results in a taller, lighter loaf. There really isn’t much difference in the flavors however, its just the other loaf will be a bit shorter and slightly more dense.

When making Homemade Bread in a Bread Machine, you add the yeast last, so it is not touching the liquids that are beneath the other dry ingredients. Just make a little well in the top of the flour and drop the the yeast in that indentation. The blades of the bread machine will mix everything together in due time.

I love the convenience of a bread machine. I can place all the ingredients in the machine, set the timer and head out to work. Then hours later, I walk back in the door and I am greeted with the wonderful smell of bread that just got done baking! Slicing a piece off while it is still warm, then slathering it with butter and maybe a little jam is the best!!! I hope this inspires you to look into a bread machine if you don’t have one already and enjoy the convenience and flavor of fresh baked bread! Enjoy friends!

My sister made this bread yesterday for Mother’s Day. The only bad thing I can say about it is that I wished she had made 2 loaves. The bread disappeared so quickly, it left me dreaming for more. Thankfully, I will see her again in a couple of weeks and have already requested she make more. I can’t wait.
