Dutch Oven One Pot Dinner

| | , ,

I love this recipe for Dutch Oven One Pot Dinner. On occasion it is my Crock Pot One pot dinner, but it all depends on how much time I have and how involved I want to be in the process of cooking that day.

Dutch Oven One Pot Dinner takes the most basic foods, puts them together in a sweet and smokey sauce, which takes this dish straight to AWESOME!!

This is a recipe I got from my grandmothers old cookbook. The pages are browned and the edges are torn and frayed from years of use. As soon as I saw this recipe, I knew my family would love it. I have been making this for over 30 years and everytime I make it, I get asked for the recipe.

I love that this calls for canned beans. Not only does this make the dish a snap to put together, but it is relatively inexpensive. You can buy store brand beans and if you are lucky to catch them on sale, you can often stock up really inexpensively! Winner in the budget department!!

Dutch Oven One Pot Dinner is 3 kinds of beans, bacon and ground beef in a sweet and smokey, BBQ sauce that’ll make your taste buds dance!!!

Typically anything that remotely resembles baked beans is considered a summer food. They make you think of bbq’s, pool parties or gathering at the park with hot dogs. I get that, they make me think of that too, but Dutch Oven One Pot Dinner is so much heartier than regular baked beans. I like to serve them in the colder months with a side of spicy cornbread or a loaf of hearty Dutch Oven No Knead Bread.

This Dutch Oven One Pot Dinner has such deep, rich flavors. You start by browning ground beef. Then you cut up a pound of  bacon and cook that until it is crisp. There are 3 different kinds of beans that get combined.

First there are kidney beans, which are the heavy hitters in any bean family. There are lima beans, which my kids have always loved. You can however substitute a butter bean or even a navy bean. Then these are joined by a can of thick, pork and beans.

Just when you think it doesn’t get much better, you add ketchup, brown sugar and liquid smoke. You are then putting this altogether in a Dutch Oven, so that you can cook them low and slow. Cooking these at a lower temp for a longer time, will allow the flavors to really blossom and become intense and rich!
