Crock Pot Apricot BBQ Wings

| | , , ,

There are not many things that will satisfy a craving for wings other than……nope, got nothing. It just needs to be wings. I was first introduced to wings, with the standard Buffalo style. You know the ones, spicy red and you dip them in either blue cheese or ranch dressing served with a side of celery. Celery, really? Why do they even bother putting that on the tray? It just lays there wishing it were a wing!

Crock Pot Apricot BBQ Wings are as easy as it gets to make, and the taste is ridiculously good!!

We are coming up on Christmas and of course New Year’s Eve, which carries over to New Year’s Day celebrations. All of these days come with huge expectations for amazing food. Christmas dinner can be your traditional, standard fare, but New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day mean you better come loaded, ready with tons of different finger foods, rich and decadent treats and for us, these Crock Pot Apricot BBQ Wings have to be in the mix.

As anyone who has ever thrown a party, where you will have a guest list of who knows how many, and all of these people are coming and going throughout the day, it can be difficult to lay out a spread where you feel like everyone is getting food that hasn’t been picked over and hasn’t lost its freshness. That is where these Crock Pot Apricot BBQ Wings come in.

Crock Pot Apricot BBQ Wings are slow cooked for several hours. They are sweet from the Apricot jam, tangy from the BBQ sauce and finger licking good!!

The beauty of crock pot cooking is that in most cases it is a hands-off endeavor. The crock pot was big in the 70’s and 80’s and used quite a lot, but much less so nowadays. The place a crock pot can really shine though, is for a busy family, for people who work long and unusual hours, or for an all day buffet, like during New Year’s celebrations.

I often work until very late at night, so I fill my crock pot before I leave for work, and keep it in the fridge until morning. I then add the ceramic insert back into the base and turn it on and leave it to do its cooking magic until dinner time. These Crock Pot Apricot BBQ Wings are delicious and require so little work, because I let the crock pot be the work horse.

Get your crock pot out and let’s get some dinner going! These only require chicken wings and 5 ingredients. First, place the wings into the bottom of a crock pot. Add the remaining ingredients to a medium size bowl and stir to make sure everything is well incorporated. Take out about 1/2 cup of the sauce and set it aside for later. Pour the remaining sauce over the wings in the crock pot.

Set the crock pot to low for 4-6 hours on low or 3-4 hours on high (keep an eye on them when it’s getting close, you don’t want them so tender they fall apart before you put them on the cookie sheet). Once they are done, carefully remove the wings and place on a foil lined cookie sheet. Turn the broiler on in your oven, because we are going to get these Crock Pot Apricot BBQ Wings crispy now.

Brush the wings with half the reserved sauce and place under the broiler for about 2 minutes. Remove from broiler, turn the wings over and brush with remaining sauce and place them back under the broiler for another 2-3 minutes or until the sauce starts to caramelize. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and serve.
